Inclusivity of Karate highlighted as Para-Karate athletes shine in Porec

The universality of Karate is being highlighted this week in Porec (Croatia) as Para-Karate athletes participate in the WKF Youth Training Camp for the first time.

While the registration of the WKF Youth Training Camp is traditionally open to all karatekas, the 2023 edition marks the first occasion that Para-Karate athletes have actively participated in the activity.

A testament to the inclusiveness and global reach of Karate, the participation of Para-karate athletes in the WKF Youth Training Camp also showcases the organisation’s interest in spreading karate to people with disabilities.

The 2023 edition of the WKF Youth Training Camp had competitors in the Intellectually Impaired and Wheelchair user categories joining the sessions with the rest of the participants, with athletes from the Blind/Visually Impaired categories also taking part in the Cup.

The progress of Para-Karate has been outstanding over the years since its inclusion in the calendar of the WKF Senior Championships on equal terms as the rest of the categories. The Para-Karate will be one of the highlights of the upcoming 2023 World Senior Championships to be held in Budapest (Hungary) later this year.

The many values of Para-Karate were also highlighted this year at the 2023 Virtus Global Games, where athletes from Intellectually Impaired divisions demonstrated the outstanding effects of the sport in these remarkable athletes.
