WKF Celebrates International Women's Day with Launch of WKF Women's Sport Commission Website Section

In a dedicated effort to honour International Women's Day on March 8, the World Karate Federation (WKF) proudly announces the launch of a new section on its website, specifically dedicated to the WKF Women's Sport Commission. Chaired by Sarah Wennerstrom, the commission includes members Rossana Kassis and Fariba Madani, embodying a commitment to diversity and empowerment of women within the karate community.

The new website section serves as a platform to showcase the commission's activities and projects aimed at fostering inclusivity and gender equality within the sport. As one of the leading sports in terms of gender parity, karate has consistently demonstrated equality, as showcased in the number of competitors at events, the duration of bouts, and the overall recognition of both male and female athletes, among many other instances.

One of the WKF's most successful initiatives in advancing the empowerment of women is the Guardian Girls Karate Project. Launched last year, the groundbreaking programme to promote gender equality and empower women to defend themselves from all forms of Gender-Based Violence through Karate training has entered a new stage in 2024, reaffirming the WKF's dedication to creating opportunities and breaking barriers for women in karate.

WKF President Antonio Espinós said:

"Karate has always been at the forefront of promoting equality and empowering women in sports. On this International Women's Day, we celebrate the achievements of our female athletes and the tireless efforts of the WKF Women's Sport Commission. Their dedication has been instrumental in shaping the future of karate. As the WKF continues to champion gender equality, the launch of the dedicated section of the Women’s Sport Commission is a testament to the organization's commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for all”.
