The World Karate Federation (WKF) President Antonio Espinós, together with UFAK President Souleymane Gaye, and members of the UFAK EC, met with Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Executive Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the African Games in a pivotal meeting held in Accra, Ghana. The primary focus of the meeting was to review the participation of karate in the African Games and assess the growing popularity of the sport in the region.

Karate has been gaining remarkable popularity in Africa, and the meeting provided a valuable platform to evaluate the added value of the sport to the African Games. The gathering, held at the offices of the African Games in Accra and attended by UFAK President Souleymane Gaye and members of the UFAK Executive Committee, showcased a united front in the pursuit of advancing karate within the African sports landscape.

The collaboration between the Karate officials and the Local Organising Committee of the African Games, as headed by Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, exemplifies a shared vision for the growth and promotion of the sport in the region and set the foundation of Karate’s participation in the next edition of the African Games set to be held in Cairo in 2027.
